Morning Symphony: The Mighty Roar Of The Upper Crust Race Car, The Bentley Continental GT3

Unless it’s kissed a concrete wall head-on at speed, anything with the Bentley badge is meant to be two things: sporty and expensive with a capital “F”. From the days of the 4 1/2 Litre and the Speed Six to modern times, Bentley was the high-water mark in the cost to play aspect. Take the new Continental GT3…it might be a significant amount lighter than it’s monstrous predecessor, but it’s still a potent beast and the car that came before was no slouch itself. 550 horsepower rarely sounds this pissed off in road racing, but the Bentley barks like one of the V8 SuperStars race machines of old and corners like it’s on rails. And if you have to ask how much, just turn around and walk away…you don’t want to know. This is a full-on race machine that’s meant to go play in competitions like Blancpain GT Series and potentially 24-hour endurance racing. We highly doubt that there is an Alcantara headliner or half a field of cow’s worth of leather inside, but instead of that you’re getting the knowledge of the VW Group’s racing minds. At least they work better than the team that was playing with the diesel engines!

While we wish V8 SuperStars was a real thing, mainly because it featured real, affordable cars and not dream machines turned into track nightmares, we still have to appreciate the fact that Bently hasn’t forgotten it’s sporting roots. Or how to make an exhaust note walk up the hairs on the back of your neck.
