I can guarantee you that somewhere, at least one insurance agent had the file for one of their clients out on their desk. In the folder was a picture of the car in question, a virtually irreplaceable bit of racing legend, gleaming with fresh paint, looking ready to go back to the track in it’s beauty shot. Next to that folder was a bottle of whiskey and a half-filled glass, and for good reason: that car was at the 76th Goodwood Members Meeting, and that car was probably out on track when the snow started falling. The folks I know in the UK have referenced what went down weather-wise as the “Beast from the East”, or for better understanding, “Boston’s leftovers”. It meant that temperatures were down to freezing or lower and that snow actually fell while cars were out on the racing surface.

We are all about seeing GT40s, IMSA Corvettes, Capris, Cobra Coupes and all other manner of badass cars ripping around the circuit, but be logical for half a second: if you actually owned one of those amazing machines, would you even let it out of the garage if you thought snow was in the forecast? Better still, would you drive it any further than to the nearest covered location? The logical side might be easier on the wallet and the insurance agent’s nerves, but that choice doesn’t have the fun of watching a Jaguar come sliding around a corner in a four-wheel-drift, now does it?

Besides, with those temperatures, the engines never ran better.
