Iron Giants: Check Out The 7 Oldest Cars That Have Ever Run Up The Hill At Goodwood

In today’s modern world of cars, the discussion centers around what technology will be next. Will it be an all EV future, will hybrids be the rule of the day, or will the piston engine continue to reign as it has for 100+ years? Back when the cars you are about see were built, the discussions were very different. They were about basic materials, basic designs, and the basic technology that today’s cars are based on. We live in a period of automotive refinement. They lived in a period of automotive invention and there was no real “wrong” way to do it. People tried every damned thing.

We’ve often wondered when people would stop caring about cars that were 120 years old and when they would lose their value. We were pretty wrong about that question because at this point, there’s perhaps more interest in the ancient cars than in stuff that is even remotely modern. Robustly built, functional, a visceral experience to drive, and deadly fast, these cars are freaking awesome. Yes, farm tractors from 50 years ago have more refinement than most of these cars. Their tires are narrower than a politicians version of the truth, and the engines are massive iron monsters that barely rev off  a modern idle. That’s what makes them so damned cool.

Each one of these cars has amazing history, an awesome back story, and a ballsy owner who hammers on it once in a while. We want one.
