Panther Bodies Built To Run Rock! Check Out This Autocross-Built Ford Police Interceptor!

It’s been seven years since Ford finally shut down the Panther platform. The last body-on-frame sedans out there, the Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis and Town Car proved themselves to be solid workhorses that could take punishment day in, day out so long as someone made sure the fluids were good every once in a while. But outside of the Marauder and the handful of “Cobra Vics” that Bondurant got ordered special from Ford, it isn’t easy to correlate one of these big machines with “sporting” without some work. They are properly large cars, two tons of old-school fun with a chassis that, updates notwithstanding, dates back to 1979. How dialed-in can you make what is effectively a Malaise sled wearing a modern suit? Well…easily, it seems. If you get rid of some of the interior fluff you can get the car under two tons. Wheels and tires will help, and apparently ditching the factory steering wheel for a smaller unit helps a ton! After racing one at the King Of The Heap race, it must be said…one of these big sleds could be a hell of a riot done right!

My 03 with 4.10’s is turning 3000 @ 80 which doesn’t seem outrageous at all. Rear billet control arms and good shocks and brake pads like Hawk HPS make a huge difference. Chris @ ADTR.net is very helpful and by joining the panther owners groups like CVN and Marauder.net you have cars parts and info galore.
