Ride With Paul Dallenbach As He Roars Up Pikes Peak In A Nutso Open Wheel, V8 Powered Unlimited Entry

Many people know the name Wally Dallenbach from his years as a successful professional racing driver in a couple of disciplines. While his brother Paul may not be quite as familiar a name, he should be. Paul Dallenbach has won the open wheel class at Pikes Peak six times! This video is awesome because we see Paul Dallenbach hammering the daylights out of a V8 powered, purpose built monster.

The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is one of the oldest auto races in the country having started in 1916. The course, which is now all-asphalt consists of over 12 miles of paved road, 156 turns, and a physical climb of over 4,700ft. There are areas on the track that are famous for their level of danger. We’ve all seen the videos of guys hurtling off the side of the road and flipping half a million times, people literally flying through the tree-tops, and other insanity. This is not a place for cowards and not a place that comes easily to drivers unless they happen to be named Paul Dallenbach.

Between the noise of the screaming engine (NASCAR small block, maybe?), the look at the huge slick tires on the corners, and the apparent fearlessness of the driver, this could be one of our favorite road racing style videos ever. The car itself is a study in minimalism with nothing but a center steer style cockpit, a massive rear wing, some basic bodywork, and those huge slick style tires on the corners. Bad ass!
