Thanks to Joe Grippo we have some really wild video for you below. From the sounds of the language the guys in the footage are speaking, this comes from Germany and in case you think the title is misleading, we’ll reiterate what you are about to see: go karts on an icy bobsled track. They spiked the tires and slapped on their helmets before ripping off down the track with its banked turns and narrow construction. At times you will see the karts nearly take flight coming off those banked corners and there are a couple spots where the kart is nearly as wide as the track and they pinball around a little.
Even with spikes in the tires, this had to have been a hairy ride for the competitors. Yes, we said competitors. There are several guys and they are racing each other in a time trial format. They are obviously not all on the course at the same time. THAT would be suicide. This is just shy of that.
The karts are full bore racing karts, shifters we believe and that means they are crazy fast and normally spend their time on road courses. In most places where shifters are run they hold the lap records at the track. Most of you out there have been to a “European” style karting facility with your pals or maybe in a league but these make those things look like a kid tricycle. Just watch the way they go ripping off the starting line on freaking ice!
If your Monday is lacking in excitement, head to your local bobsled course and bring a buddy’s shifter kart with you. It’ll spruce things right up!
