Miracle Mercedes: The Vision EQXX Concept Looks Nearly Ready For Prime Time And Make Some Stunning Claims

(By Tom Lohnes) – Mercedes-Benz released their newest EV concept today, and it breaks a lot of records.

Called the Vision EQXX, this “concept” that is about 80% on the way to production is the most efficient car ever. With a staggeringly low 0.18 drag coefficient, Mercedes says the EQXX has a range of 621 miles, which blows everything out of the water. For reference, the next longest-range EV is the Lucid Air Dream Edition at 520 miles. Even more impressive, the battery in the EQXX is tiny. Mercedes won’t confirm the size, but they have said “under 100 KWh”, which is seriously impressive. SO impressive in fact, the German marque claims that the average American driver will only have to recharge the big electric sedan twice a month. Compared to other vehicles that have to plug in basically every day, this is a huge step forward. The only downside? Since the battery is so small in the name of efficiency, the EQXX only makes 201 horsepower. Adequate, but you won’t be getting anywhere fast.

Also, a downside to some is the looks. With a front end basically ripped straight off of a Kia EV6 and a rather interesting boattail design at the rear, this new Benz is polarizing at best. Inside, the EQXX looks nearly production ready, with an all-screen dashboard and some very comfortable looking seats. The backseat looks almost there as well, with a 4-seat layout and a ton of ambient lighting, as expected in a large Mercedes sedan.

I am very interested to see what the EQXX’s real-world range will be. If it hits the targeted 621, Mercedes has officially revolutionized the EV game. There should be a production model debuting later this year, so keep your eyes peeled.

This looks absolutely nothing like any current Mercedes – but the way their styling has gone lately, I’d say that’s a good thing.

For some reason, at first glance of the front, the first thing I thought was ” ’62 Thunderbird”.
