American engines, British bodies and chassis. Yes, these are our favorite hybrids. That’s doubly true when they are on the rac track battling each other at full throttle. This video, taken in England last year features Mike Whitaker in the TVR Griffin and Ollie Bryant in a Shelby Cobra. Before you think that there’s no way one could run with the other, you are wrong. Both of these small block powered cars are not only close, they’re about dead evenly matched! Let’s also say that the drivers were having the time of their lives during this adventure as well.
The coolest parts of this video for us are the in-car captures, especially of Whitaker. At one point, after watching the guy saw his way around a few corners, one of the announcers describes the TVR as being “nervous” which if you watch Whitaker driving it is accurate but a massive understatement.
Of course the Cobra is the far more iconic hot rod out of these two which makes the valiant work of the TVR even that much more awesome. Who here among us would have pinned this TVR as a true competitor for a Shelby Cobra?! Not us!
