A Year In Review Of Spectator Drags: Close Races, Fender Rubbing And Wild Rides

A Year In Review Of Spectator Drags: Close Races, Fender Rubbing And Wild Rides

In theory, spectator drags sound like a good time. Two people and their machines enter a circle track, make a lap or two, and whoever crosses the checkered stripe on the asphalt first is the winner. Like we said, in theory, this sounds like a good idea. In practice, this usually goes south faster than a songbird at the first sign of a leaf falling off of a tree. We’ve seen PIT maneuvers, rollovers, bad cases of concrete poisoning and even straight-up ass kickings taking place at these deals, and these are cars that people drove to the race that evening. If things go south or the car goes turtle…well, we hope they came with a friend, because the family whip just got hauled off on a rollback.

If there is a redeeming factor, it’s that you will see all sorts of pairings take on each other. Camaros and Mustangs? They’re there, but how about a drifting GMC that looks like it hauls plumbing supplies pairing off against a third-gen F-body mutt, or a Honda Accord taking on a VW Passat? Does it run? Does it drive? Pair ’em up! BMW against SN-95, small block Rangers and rusty G-bodies all come out and give it a shot from this collection of the 2017 season from both Oxford Plains Speedway and Beech Ridge Motor Speedway. We expect to see more insanity next year!
