Update: Southern California news outlets are now reporting that Bob Gordon, and his wife Sharon, were both found dead yesterday in an apparent murder suicide. 

The Associated Press and USA Today are reporting that Robby Gordon, Indy Car, NASCAR, and Off-Road racing great, has lost his dad and his dad’s wife. Robert Gordon, aka “Baja Bob”, and his wife Sharon were found dead yesterday evening in their southern California home. A neighbor apparently saw the couple in their house while riding her horse nearby and called 911. Details on the cause of death are not being made available at this time.

Last year during the Charlotte Optima race I hung out with three generations of Gordons and was welcomed with open arms. Robby was gracious, fun, and cool as hell to be around. I got to hang out with Bob and we talked about his storied career at Baja, what that was like for Robby growing up, and how Robby’s racing career all got started. It was great talking to him. He was a proud father, and a guy who could tell a great story. Seeing him with his grandson Max, was a special thing that clearly brought joy to himself, Robby, and Max.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Gordon family in this tough time. We can’t imagine what you are going through, but know that you are strong and will persevere.
