Chassis Swapping A Squarebody Crew Cab Onto A Dodge Cummins 4×4 Chassis!

Chassis Swapping A Squarebody Crew Cab Onto A Dodge Cummins 4×4 Chassis!

Doing chassis swaps is not necessarily easy to do correctly, and is especially hard on a 2 wheel drive truck, or one that doesn’t have a big tire on it. If the frame of the donor doesn’t follow the same contours as the body you are swapping onto it it can cause issues and in general they can look pretty clunky if you don’t put the right thought and fabrication into them. I’ve done chassis swaps, very successfully in fact, but in many cases I find using the floor from the donor chassis is also a great way to insure the fit is great. This however is not always possible, or practical.

In this video from Halfass Kustoms, you’ll see part one of the task of swapping a Squarebody Chevrolet 3+3, aka Crew Cab, onto a 2nd Gen Dodge Cummins 4×4 chassis. I’ve never personally seen one done, but have heard about them, and am interested in seeing just how they do it here. I love the projects that come out of Halfass Kustoms and watch their YouTube channel religiously. The builds are NEVER clean show cars and trucks, but they are always functional and fun. I’ve seen them do other chassis swaps and I think watching this one will be equally entertaining and inspiring, if not educational.

In this first video they will strip both trucks, and test fit the chassis and body for the first time to decide just what needs to be done before the welding and cutting begins. This should be a good series and we’ll share all the videos with you so you might be inspired to do the same thing with your own project.
