The Grimy Climb: Racing For The Cash On A Muddy Hill In Tennessee

The dry gravel and sand that I encountered at Gravelrama earlier this year might have been tricky to handle, but a hill composed of slimy thin mud, chunky, dusty earth underneath the slime, tree roots and rainwater sounds like hell on earth to even the most battle-proven rockbouncer. Traction? Ha, that’s a joke! Throttle application is critical on any of these hillclimbs, but the Race to Riches Qualifier at Windrock Park in Tennessee saw nearly uncontrolled flight become an art form. Drivers needed air time to clear cliff ledges and to get where they needed to be, but one wrong placement or one misjudged leap and the return trip to the bottom was not going to be pretty. Some of the stronger professionals would limp away with a broken axle or a very rang bell. Watch the action go down from first to last here:
