Watch This 120 Ton Dozer’s Broken Ripper Tooth Get Flame Cut And Welded To Better Than New Shape!

I grew up with oxy-acetylene cutting torches and stick ARC welders. I didn’t weld with a MIG machine until I was in high school, and didn’t TIG until I was in college. And while I’m a pretty confident welder, I’ve never been the master with an oxy-acetylene torch, so watching this video and seeing an oxy-lpg torch flame cut this insanely large piece of steel is just mesmerizing. In this video you are going to see a ripper tooth, off of a 120-ton dozer, that has broken off. It’s been brought in to have a new end welding onto it and the cutting and welding operations going on here are awesome. We’re talking about a BUNCH of welding passes to build-up material and make this weld happen, and it is certainly impressive to watch.

I will say that the actual welding of this part wouldn’t intimidate me at all. It’s big, but the welding is pretty standard. The fit-up is also pretty straightforward, but it takes quite a bit of grunt because you are talking about parts that can’t just be lifted by hand.

This video comes from Cutting Edge Engineering in Australia and I’ve watched several of their videos before. They are always working on large-scale things that still have to be ultra-precise, so if you dig this kind of thing make sure you check out their channel for more cool videos.

Kurtis does all the heavy lifting and fine machine work.
The Giggler handles the camera and editing like a pro.
Homeless, the Safety Officer, keeps the work flowing.

I look forward to CEE videos every week, There’s always something
to learn, including the great ‘bonus clips’. A finer trio there is not.
