Pulling Carnage Video: When the Weight Sled Fails, Bad Things Happen

Pulling Carnage Video: When the Weight Sled Fails, Bad Things Happen

The weight sled at a pulling event is the great equalizer. Like an engine dyno or a drag strip it has humbled and conversely, made heroes of many pullers over the course of time. Funny thing is, you never really think about it failing, but on occasion, the sled will break, and look out when it does! As you’ll see in this video, the multi-engine tractor launches off the line, starts building a good head of steam, but something is amiss.

That somthing is the weight box, it isn’t moving up the sled as it should. That weight transfer, which takes all of the weight in that sliding box and eventually moves it up into position basically right over the rear tires of the pulling vehicle is often packed with many thousands of pounds. In this video you’ll see what happens when that weight box is allowed to roam free.

The chain or cable that moves and secures the box has failed in some way, so when the tractor and sled stops, the free wheelin’ weight takes off, with nearly disasterous results! Now you know why these tractors have roll cages, or at least one of the reasons.
