If You Could Have ANY Tow Rig On Earth, What Would It Be?

If You Could Have ANY Tow Rig On Earth, What Would It Be?

Earlier today I posted an editorial where I’m griping about the current truck wars where the big three are constantly making mor e power and more towing capacity. I think there are a bunch of people who have no business towing what their trucks are capable of. But if you throw that out the window, and say that everyone has the skill to drive anything they could possibly want, then what is the ultimate tow rig? I just got a square body Chevrolet dually that I’m going to be building. There are better things at towing and driving and everything, given that it is a 30 year old truck, but it’s what I wanted and what I like. So don’t use the actual towing prowess of a vehicle be the ONLY thing you use to make your choice. No, use style, memories, whatever the hell moves you.

There is no right or wrong answer here. If you think that the ultimate tow rig for you would be a 1965 International Travelall, because it will haul your Airstream and look bitchin at the same time, then good on you brother. If you think a 1987 Chevrolet Silverado crew cab dually is the ultimate to pull your Chaparral gooseneck race trailer, you are my dude! But if you think a new F-450 Crew Cab is the bees knees, I’m not going to argue either. Just let us know WHY you think that your choice is best, and what you would be towing with it. We just might agree with you, no matter how crazy.

Anyone think an M35A is the ultimate truck? I know some guys that do!

So what is your choice?

IF YOU COULD CHOOSE ANY TRUCK TO HAVE AS YOUR TOW RIG, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

So many choices. If I had Bill Gates money I’d get a HEMTT M1120. The PLS System would let me flat rack about any vehicle, the on-board crane would be supper handy, and it’s nearly impossible to get stuck. As a working stiff I’m partial to a 12v Cummins square body Dodge 350. The 3d Ram on the hood sets it off.

I have my 1974 Dodge D100 Club Cab with a 5.7 Hemi driveline currently in storage, it is my ultimate tow rig to tow my ’75 Plymouth Duster street / strip car.

New trucks are just effortless. When I’m not driving a semi I tow for my sons rowing team 48’ number pull for rowing shells. I have rented trucks from the big 3 in the last year and can truly say in my experience the diesel F250/350 is my favorite. But I miss my 90 F350 crew cab dually and I don’t think you can even get a manual trans on an HD truck new. So I’ll take a 96 F350 powerstroke with a 5 speed Banks upgrade and the ChooChoo Custom package. It would look awesome with Sudden Death on a gooseneck !

I recently gave up my CDL, and quit driving, for health reasons. Don’t fell out of your attic! But I would love to have an old White 3000, with a 671 Jimmie, and pull about a 35′ gooseneck flatbed. That could drag home more junk than I need, and sound great doing it.

I have a \’96 GMC dually that pulls both my 16 ft. open trailor with my vega on board and my 24 ft. enclosed trailor with both the vega and a golf cart. Can hardly tell they\’re back there. It\’s a 454 with 204,000 miles on the clock. you don\’t need 1000 ft. lbs. of torque. Nor a $60,000 bill to pay off.

Is this a make up article for being a douche in the other article?
Nothing screams unsafe more than the old tow rigs in the first two pics, clapped out Chevy towing a fifth wheel and an International with four wheel drum brakes.

Looks like someone is back stepping pretty hard after he got roasted for writing an article complaining that people are not skilled enough or qualified enough to be operating said vehicles.

This may stretch the definition of tow rig, but I’d like Tommy IVO’s Dodge based car hauler with the glass “display case” box to haul a car inside.

For what it is worth…I haul my gasser to the track in a 1988 Peterbilt One Piece \”garage unit\” conversion with a lounge containing, kitchen, 2 beds and bath. It\’s never a question where the race car is…I just look back through the open door that goes to the \”garage\”.. No motel expenses, cook you own foods and park in Truck Stops and park in line with the Big Boys. The \”Real Truckers\” love to see it. No CDL required, it is registered as a MotorHome .It flies like a rocket via Cummins 400 Big Cam. Look for \”Big Red\” and his little Red Willis at a track near you!

Is this a money no object question? If so then, I want to find a 1968 to 1971 Dodge D series quad cab truck and plop it on a on 2nd or 3rd gen 2500 or 3500 Ram chassis. Cummins diesel with 3 pedals. I’d integrate as much of the interior as possible to keep it comfy and cool. I’d have to style of a bitchin’ Sweptline Dodge and the utility of a 3/4 ton or better pickup. I just need something that can pull a small RV, 2 Harley’e, the rust bucket Plymouth or a ton of landscaping rock or brush from the property. The 1/2 ton is just barely cutting it.

    Tatra T815 , they come in 4×4 6×6 8×8 10×8 10×10 12×8 12×12 with fully articulated axles Absolutely Nothing comes close

Down to earth answer? Do a few wish list things to my 88 C1500, all I tow is a 1978 Nova. Big dreams? A mid 90’s barn door Suburban, diesel swapped, no third row seating, with a good stereo. Yeah not fancy but I like simple trucks.

1965 Chevy C60. Bagged and C notched, but really heavy bags in the back so it can still handle a lot of weight. Compound turbo 24v Cummins with a controller for the ECU so I can have different boost/power levels, anywhere from 40 to 80 PSI. Eaton Fuller 8 speed manual, 10 lug axles and American Force Trek DRW wheels. And an nice Toyota Magnetic Metallic paintjob.
