Re: Roadside Find: 1968 Mercury Convertible

The nose on the late 60s Mercs almost looks like a Continental from the same time period ... poor man's Lincoln I guess. ;)

IMO they will be sitting on it a while at that price, 1 of 1500 or not.

Ironically there is the exact same car not far from my house at a shop getting a full blown resto.
        Its the same color too.

I think it's the only Merc I've ever seen with Mercury the God on it in some fashion. Anyone else seen his head and winged helmet on a car?

In Canada that car was sold as the Montcalm and not the Monterrey. My folks had a puke green 68 two door hardtop with a 302. The colour matched our avocado kitchen appliances - very fashionable in the late-60s and we were a colour-coded correct family.

Family tradition was to go out to the A&W on Sunday with four kids in the back, two adults in the front, loads of room all 'round. My dad was only about five-eight but used to always put the front seat right back -- said it was easier to smack us if we were misbehaving (although we did and he never did). Still can't figure out how he got his feet on the pedals?

Eventually the car came to me for a summer. Sold it when I went back to school for $700.

The big back seat was handy at the drive-in ;)

Never ever did see a convertible.

Yup, the washer reservoir off all places on my 68 Cougar had the original godhead cap on it. The 03-04 Mercury Marauders had them on the wheel centre caps too.
