Re: The Top 11 Defunct American Car Makers

Yep, a lot of good brands have become extinct over the years and unfortunately there will be more to come very soon the way it looks now.

I wonder what would have happened if Studebaker had merged with Nash and Hudson rather than Packard. Oh well all we can do is wonder about any of this.

Sadly, Chrysler's plan for survival looks way too much like that last paragraph. Funny, wasn't it Ford instead of Chrysler who said that history is bunk?

Ignoring the dozens of prewar ones:

          Kaiser / Willys
          Crosley
          Bricklin?
          Edsel
          Hudson

            Minor correction, Bruab.....

Diamond REO is the combination of REO and Diamond T...this thread is depressing me.

Shoot, I've owned vehicles from three of those companies. Pontiac (not on the list) makes four. And if Ford dumps Mercury it goes to five.

Once the swell folks at Hondayota are through with their plans, there will be several more names on that list.

                        Welcome to the 3rd world...

I have a poster on the wall at work that lists close to 3000 names of car makers that have gone bye bye over the years. Some of the vehicles those companies produced will live on for a long time, and as long as people keep restoring/fixing them, I'll have work.
