Re: Video: Nascar Dodge R5/P7 Race Engine Lucas Oil Test
Of course the R5/P7 has nothing to do with production or "street" engines. And running the sort of cam timing, induction package, and compression necessary to make 800+ h.p. at 9,000 rpm with a two-valve pushrod 358 would not be remotely possible for a daily driver.
Sure, it's cool to watch, but it has almost no relevance to anyone outisde oval track racing. A turbocharged Gen III hemi could make a lot more power, get better mileage, and would be infinitely more streetable. And it would be something that would cost a fraction of an R5/P7 mill.
NASCAR racing has drifted so far from "stock cars" that it's almost meaningless.

making that kind of power from a single 4 bbl 12:1 engine on gas is pretty good
those nascar boys can teach us a lot about airflow and efficency - that backyard turbo motor might make more power , but isn't going to live long
dang if those aren't SB2-2 heads - nascar is a joke

Nascar or not, anytime an v8 engine does it's 'song', it's just plain cool.
Filmtip: when the camera is running in the dyno-cell and recording a run, turn-off the auto-focus function and manually focus on the engine first before hitting the record-button. This could prevent the image-blurring I think.

I don't understand you guys. : They may be very similar to the Chevy heads, but Nascar won't let Dodge run the Hemi heads. And what are the chevy guys running in top fuel again?? A HEMI!
I would love to have one of these engines in my 4 speed duster. They are getting cheaper too.
And who said anything about these being for a street car? Maybe a put down the the mart once in a while, but on any track it would be a blast to drive.
