    Man, I love the idea of this thing. I think it would be viable today with the advent of modern aircraft materials like carbon fiber, Kevlar honeycomb, etc. Modern engines are quieter, more powerful, and more efficient. This would be great for Great Lakes shipping and passengers, or across the Gulf of Mexico - maybe even west coast to Hawaii. It was proven to be much more fuel efficient than flying which should make travel cheaper - if a bit slower.
