That first article starts off good, but seems to end on the note that older cars should still be crushed. Like Squirrel mentioned a few C4C threads ago, driving around, how many pre-1990 cars do you see? Pre-1980? Etc. Not many percentage wise.

Like SilverBuick, I get the idea that both articles are written from a greenie-weenie perspective.
The important focus for the nation should be from the money perspective - the program didn't accomplish its stated goals.
Oh - "Hangover" is the perfect choice of words to describe the after-effects C4C will produce.

I wonder the % of these cars will be repoed. How many people that are driving around in a clunker can afford a new car payments and a higher insurance premiums. That ought to screw up the credit market some more.

They knew that the initial round of C4C would be a fiasco . . . and the "fix" will be to dump most all of SEMA's protections for pre1-984 cars and to tinker with the regs.

For the hard core supporters of C4C, it's was never about bailing out car dealers or any real environmental benefits. That was window dressing. It's really about "crushing" rebellion against government-regulated, sealed-hood motoring and paving the way for general acceptance of the coming generation of "tamper-resistent" FWD micromachines.

Consider this: Obama has said he wants to divest the gov's holdings in the 1st quarter of '10...... now, if you were, say someone who was manipulating the market price, wouldn't it be a darn good idea to pump up the sales so that the stupid buy the stock for a premium? They would believe that people are back to buying so the stock should go.. wait for it.... up - thus Obama can claim he "made" money for the American people. The numbers say the taxpayers are on the hook somewhere between 19 billion and 30 billion dollars between the two manufacturers (money that won't be repaid).... however, the caveat is if if the stock hits $90 bucks - which it has done before (when GM was making money) - then the gov would be fully paid and Obama would look like a hero.

What you don't think Americans/stockbuyers are that stupid? Think again, people are still trading in the old GM stock (despite Treasury officials publishing a DON'T BUY THE DAMN STOCK articles).... and that stock is truly worthless.- so give them a stock that is allegedly worth something and they'll go to town.....

If you believe in God, start praying.... if not, well...good luck with that.

C4C is a joke, people will be losing cars , or homes,again. Stimulating the economy would have been so easy if Americans were given a certain amount of dollars for replacing out of date wasteful appliances and windows on homes they OWN, not rent, but to homeowners. Many money saving ideas in general to save on utilities. Converting vehicles to propane or natural gas would have helped , and along with that ,building refueling stations.
Right now and for the last 2 years the goverment has been paying businesses back taxdollars to go away from wasteful lighting (metal-halide bulbs& incadescent)in manufacturing plants and warehouses to use flourescent T5- or T8 lighting.
With some tax credits and cost savings in utilities a plant spending $60,000 in a project could roughly see the return in 1 1/2 years, and after that its money in the bank. That needed to be done in American homes with products made in the USA. Short term loss, long term gain, Obamas plan, just the opposite.
Wouldnt it have been nice to get $450.00 -600. back on a new refer to replace the 15 y/o one in your home,or a new efficient water heater?

Amen to that.

But, something tells me that, you, like me, own a home and are paying the largest percent of your income to federal taxes as any other income bracket... you are keeping those tax dollars coming in because you pay your bills and debts... so why the hell would anyone want to help us, the productive members of society??
