It's the car that was fully caged over the winter.

Gonna be fun with the blown Camaros show up.

I think those cars are capable of high 8s under perfect conditions, and they belond in Super Stock, NOT stock eliminator, period. same goes for the hemi challenger and upcoming supercharged camaro. If it's a factory special, low production car that is not street legal, it is not stock material. That's why they have such a miriad of performnca clasees under the super stock banner. just reading the NHRA rulebook through the S/S pages is a wierd journey in itself, trying to figure out where something fits as they try to create a class for eveything.

They shouldn't be run in the same class.

The FIA had the right idea with the following rule: " if the engine of a car includes a separate device used for supercharging it, the nominal cylinder-capacity will be multiplied by 1.4 and the car will pass into the class corresponding to the fictive volume thus obtained. The new cylinder-capacity of the car shall always be considered as the real one."

              See http://www.sovren.org/competition/ru...endix%20J.html

Thus, the CJ Mustang has a "fictive volume" of 449.4 cubic inches.

The vaporware "blower Camaro" would have a "fictive volume" of ~ 529.48 cubic inches.

Even with the Camaro's anticipated heavier size, it would have an unfair advantage. Some of this could be offset with the CJ's superior four-valve heads (albeit that the street versions of the GT500 and the ZR1 engines have virtually identical power per cube from the factory due to the Shelby's ultra-conservative cam timing).

If they run them together in the same class, we're bound to have a return to weight breaks and factoring.

Finally, it should be noted that the debut of the "Sunoco Camaro" in Koni Challenge competition last weekend at VIR was less than spectacular. The Bucknum / Donohue Stevenson Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro finished a distant 43rd, while the JBS Motorsports Mustang GT won the race.

These cars can run in Super Stock as well, if they wanted to. Right now, a lot of Stock Eliminator racers are running their cars in Super Stock at select events. Over the past few years, NHRA has changed it so SS and SE are not contested at all the same National Events, so they can keep the car count manageable. Many Stockers are being run in Super Stock as a result so that they can race at more events. The truth is, the big tire isn't necessary for a lot of guys because of Cal Tracs, shock technology, lighter front ends due to aftermarket discs, etc. The 9" tire crowd hooks really really well, which is why so many run wheelie bars now.

calvert runs a 9 in tire in super stock and win
I see a problem if a stocker can run on the class index for super stock , but as long is isn't funny car , nobody cares

Kudos to anyone that can build a Stocker, tune on it, work there arse off making the car work, etc and be able to run under the SS index it fits in. As far as the Mustngs go, we will likely never know how fast they can go in class trim. Any car that leaves as soft as these do and run well into the 9's can handle any hit the hp gods give them. Of course they aren't the only under factored combo in NHRA's class guides.

                            Dream on, Bro.

The power-to-weight ratio on the $106,000 ZR1 isn't close to what it would take to run sevens. Typically, you'd need to be approaching 170 m.p.h. in the traps to run in the sevens. The ZR1 is only about a 130-135 m.p.h. car at its advertised power-to-weight ratio. Not even close to sevens.

Even if you gutted it down to 2500 lbs (with driver) and jacked the boost to the moon, you'd still have to have ~ 1,000 h.p. to run sevens. And the lifespan of the transaxle and half-shafts could probably be measured in minutes at that power level.

Even overpriced Chevrolets are bound by the laws of physics.
