I think McCullough blowers had the same feature.

        Wait a second!

Instead of attaching the electromagnetic clutch (think: AC-type clutch) to the supercharger, as has been often done by Mercedes*, Toyota,** Volkswagen etc., this guy's proposing attaching the electromagnetic clutch directly to the crank.

AND HE GOT A PATENT FOR THAT! ???

I suspect that belt slip on engagement somewhat dampens "shock" to the crank, regardless of where the clutch is in the system (unless you're teaming an electric clutch up with a Gilmer belt).

Although the great "VS57" website is now history, I recall that it had a comprehensive history of McCulloch and Paxton centrifugal superchargers. Although McCulloch had a variable speed supercharger (the VS-series) which was used on the supercharged Fords of the late 50s, as well as some Kaisers, McCulloch did not offer an on/off clutch.

I wonder if he uses an Eaton 2-speed rear axle switch like Max did?

Hi, I am Bill, the inventor of the supercharger control system. One of the bloggers on this site referred to my system as a copy cat from one of the following, Mercedes, Toyota, or Volkswagen, you be the judge. If you are interested in seeing pics of my system, e-mail me at [email protected].

                      Hey Bill,

Thanks for joining up! I think it was Speedy who mentioned the other mfgs usage of a "blower clutch".

I'm sure he'll be reading this soon!

                            Hey Bill,

How much testing have you been able to do? Have you tortured it pretty well?

Bill, I think its a great thing you're supplying this niche in the market. Obviously the "Mad Max" supercharger switch (which looked to most of us a lot like a reverse lock-out) has captured the imagination of scores of Bangshifters over the past thirty years. If you can run the difficult aftermarket gauntlet of production, price point and promotion, your product might be a success.

I wasn't criticizing your efforts. I was merely pointing out that the concept of a part-time supercharger is decades old (as are most of the technologies Bangshifters employ)

I was just surprised you could patent it.

I suspect that if your clutch is a success in the aftermarket, it will encourage someone to put together a proper VW/Lancia-style "twincharged" V8.

Keep updating us on your progress to market.
