Will this be listed on the Darwin Awards? A GMC pickup is certainly no sports car and evidently this guy proved it. Too bad for his family. I really feel for them.

Re: Bizarre Fatal Crash at Sebring International Raceway

The Tampa Bay Online reported -

Witnesses told Hayward that Martin was observed drinking beer before the event closed at 5 p.m. "He was not talking in sentences, didn't answer questions, and he was rubbing his head."

Also - A track worker tried to get Douglas K. Martin out of the truck after the crash, said Robert Hayward, the safety steward. Martin looked at his rescuer, then turned away, Hayward said.

It's strange that these incidents always involve someone in a truck like the one quoted below. I now of one other occasion at Indy in the 70's...same thing, in a truck :-\

Man Drives Pickup Truck On Indy Track, Dies In Crash

        AP

INDIANAPOLIS - A man drove a pickup truck into the Indianapolis Motor Speedway today for several fast laps, then was killed when he crashed into a vehicle parked on the track to stop him.

The man apparently got in through a gate left open during cleanup from Sunday's race, police said. The truck sped around the track three or four times before crashing near the start-finish line about 7:30 a.m., said Jeffrey Dine, police chief in the community of Speedway inside Indianapolis. The man carried no identification, police said.

don't think it being a truck had anything to do with it...
the fact that he'd been drinking and on an unlit track . and high speed without ever seeing the layout of the road..
had more to do with it..
if he was in a lambo.. it wouldn't have mattered..
other than you'd think he was rich
