Does the C50 have a 5 and 2? Do you remember how to shift one? And hey, does it have a 292?

I still got my first car, it's near and dear but if it were to bite the dust I'd move on. Got that lesson when my Firebird was totalled, that was my realization that, "Hey, these are just cars" I don't have to like it, but life goes on.
      Escaped on a technicality.

Brian, the automotive "lovebug" bites all of us eventually...some just get nailed sooner than others.

In a way, being a "liker" is easier when it comes time to move on...not being hung-up on a vehicle makes parting with it easier.

My first truck(my late grandfather's 1985 GMC) was one of the few that didn't bother me when it left the driveway...now, the kids were all upset about it, but not me(oddly).

I still remember how empty I felt the day my father drove his '72 Chevelle away for the last time, taking it to the guy who bought it from him......felt like a piece of me died when that car left.

Hell, in a way, still do feel a bit upset about it...and that was, what, 25 years ago?

Damn Brian, That almost brought me to tears.
I understand where your at and how you feel. But I guess it depends the chain of events like you said.
For me and my 65 Dodge it was the string of events before its coming to me and the ones since I have had it.
It was a long dry spell of financial and job lulls. We had a decent car for the wife but for me it was always one I would pick up for 200 or 300 hundred bucks at the time, going through a few Buicks,Escorts and such ,I landed a 72 Dodge ,almost worn out it lasted a year, and then finally one day just died. I worked a fulltime job at Fleetwood Homes and part time at a local junkyard for a friend of mine Bob Glover, and he always had stuff coming and going. Well the 65 was there and offered to me to drive ,and I did drive it and then about three months later bought it. It was just an old truck then, and I just started making improvements to it, but my older kids was small then and it carried them to school, football and dance and anything else it needed to do. It has always been a dependable truck, and I finally got a great job in 1998 but I had to drive about 50 miles one way everyday, the Dodge never let me down, other vehicles came and went but the Dodge stayed. Later on in 2005 divorce came, and I kept my truck and a new family starts and my 2 year old loves the truck as much as my other kids. To this day my other kids still ask about the truck ,or if I have done anymore to it or what, and they worry if I will get rid of it. They should know better. The truck had been painted by me in 02,wrecked in 03,scratched,beat and now starting to heal a little bit at a time. So today if I went out and got in the truck I know I can trust my old friend to start, take me down the road and bring me home safe all while giving me the pleasure of driving it and letting me escape the world for a bit.
I hope yor truck brings you this pleasure.

              Brian
I can't wait to hear about this big green monster - but I also have to ask - how will you plow snow this winter?
what will the neighbors do without you to plow out thier driveways and pull thier cars out of snow banks?

will you mount a plow on big green?

is there another tractor in your immediate future?

I think I've been a liker and a lover of cars. I think I may always have a mustang of one kind or another, since my first car was a 70 fastback, and I'll probably have my current 69 fastback longer than any car I've ever had.

I've not yet experienced breaking the news to a child about a car moving on to it's next owner - I'm a few years off on that one.... thanks for the heads up!

I think the best part of letting one project go - is the anticipation and excitement of moving on to the next one!

keep that big green project thread active!

John, my dad has a 2008 2500HD with a plow, he lives a mile east
my dad in law has a 2008 diesel F250 with a plow and he lives a mile west.

Then there's always the Mack that I occasionally drive for a friend when he is short on help plowing the streets. (that may be overkill for my 100 foot driveway though.

                I'm good. :D

Lover, I guess.... It really hurts every time I gotta cut a car loose My 65 Mustang, though, will never go. I've had it for 25 years now, and I'm pretty sure I'll be buried in it....

Must be nice Brian - no wonder the little guys haven't slowed you down - you have built in baby sitters minutes away - on both sides of the family!

Nice to have access to that much plow truck and hauling capacity. I have to take care of all that my damned self.

Re: Barnstormin': I'm A Liker, Not a Lover

I have a lust of too many cars to ever be able to keep one for good. I have countless ideas bouncing around my head of future projects and until I have the financial means to keep every one that I build; selling them and moving on is the only option.

The Cobra will be a tough sell for me and it will undoubtedly have to come. Sure the car is one of a kind and sure it has countless hours into it....but that's not what will make it tough for me. This car isn't a classic by any means being a 94 and in fact as far as Mustangs go the 94-98's are amongst the most undesirable. But much like you touched on Brian it's the life circumstances that have played out during this cars involvement in my life that make the connection.

This car has been with me through some seriously substantial events in my life and the most serious of which being the death of one of my best friends that helped me out immensely turning wrenches on this very car. It's not the car that I feel emotionally attached too. It's just metal and and wiring and plastic. It's the being able to put my hands physically on something that I shared with somebody I dearly miss. That was just 4 years ago but I know that at the end of the day the good memories will not leave with this machine.

I love my girl and I love my family and friends. A car....I just like a lot. The day I consider any mechanical thing to be something "I can never let go of" will be the day I consider my priorities to be out of line.

Damn, you're a cold hearted son of a b*tch, Brian! Selling the tractor and making the kid cry... what's next? Selling his favorite stuffed animal too?
