Well - lotsa guys play golf better n' me.

But it's still painfully boring to watch.

NASCAR wasn't always that way .

Duster...that golf analogy is pretty damned good!

But with golf**, when you're watching Tiger whack the little ball around (between bimbo sessions and blackouts) for ridiculous sums of money, he's theoretically playing exactly the same game every duffer with a broken-down set of pawnshop clubs can play on the local public course. ***

In other words, golf's hapless viewers still can identify with Tiger and imagine they're Tiger every time they step up on a fairway.

With NASCAR, the hideous COT and plastic, corporate scripted, "pretty-boy" drivers are so far removed from anything the fans in the stands (or at home on the duct-taped couch in the doublewide) can do that the "identification" factor has mostly been lost.

Oh sure, about 80% of NASCAR fans think (usually after consuming some "adult beverages") that they can wheel like "Junior." But the "Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday" aspect of NASCAR is gone.

The "fixes" are to return to production-based stock cars, expand the pool of drivers, end the "superteam" era, and encourage drivers and crewchiefs to do something on TV other than spout lists of sponsors spiced with memorized cliches.

        _________

**I hate golf. Both playing it and watching it. But I understand why an aging bunch of Viagra and Cialis addicts love it.

***Public golf courses are grotesque wastes of land. Why is it golfers get subsidized courses while racers usually get nothing but hassles from "the man?'

Ok I'll "stape in" and let you know how it was. Meanwhile Corky, your own experience in NASCAR is why you love it?
