The better interview was with Ralph Nader. Like him or not, he did more "good" for the general population than Brock "Cannonball Run" Yates ever thought he did. In any case, the Ross Perot quote about GM was on point and epic!

"TV Tommy Ivo" was the Ultimate Showman, his vehicles were always first class and so were his one of a kind Tow Rigs! there's also an Ivo tale about him racing in Union Grove Wisconsin one day and somewhere in Texas the next day and this was before the day of multiple cars and Interstates being tied together! National Dragster made note of it and said if there were a "tow mph" record he would own it!

Yates point was that skilled drivers in well maintained vehicles could safely cross the country on good highways at higher than posted speeds. He was correct, was he not?
I disagree that Yates caused "damage to the auto industry".
Further, I do not find him to be arrogant, and certainly not a Neanderthal.
And as great a man as Wally was, he truly did NOT believe that hot rods existed outside of California.
Why do you think he and Garlits disliked each other so much?Act your age, not your shoe size. - Prince

The Garlits and Parks dynamic was driven by a list of things. Geography would be pretty close to the bottom.

Listen, many of the old timers who knew & raced with Wally (and other California hot rodders of his age) felt the same way.
Their stance was that hot rods were "invented" in California, and anywhere else was simply a pale imitation.
I didn't just think this up, ya know.Act your age, not your shoe size. - Prince
