Re: RacingJunk Find: Neat 1965 Altered Wheelbase Plymouth

Those altered wheelbase cars were spectacular. A few years ago I met a guy who was in the process of restoring a factory '62 Plymouth Savoy altered wheelbase car. It had been acid dipped and raced out of a Plymouth dealership in Richmond I believe. He even had some pictures and timing slips to verify some of the car's history. The strangest thing to me was that the car evidently was shipped out of Detroit as a three speed car with the Hemi engine. It still had the three speed collar on the steering column. The car naturally had a four speed, but the guy who was restoring the car said that it came from the factory with the three speed and the dealer who recieved the car put the four speed in it.

    Another cool story. Thanks.

I am very familiar with this car. It was built by the late Dick Maxwell's brother-in-law. Dick was one of the original Ramchargers. The car runs 10.30 and is frequently raced at Route 66 in Joliet, Illinois.
