Not good. Invite Big Brother in and he'll never want to leave.

      This doesn't bode well.

Re: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Other Auto-Regulating Politicians to Tour the Detroit Auto Show

"Auto Show officials have said that there have been so many new requests for attendance from politicians that a new pass badge color was required to distinguish the government officials from the journalists."

"Badges? We no need no stinkin' badges!" You can always tell 'em apart:

Print journalists: the grungy folks who look like they slept in their clothes. No entourage.

Automotive journalists: just like print journalists, except that they're wearing some shirt scammed from a car event.

Internet bloggers: Impecably dressed and coffed, unless they work for Jalopnik (i.e. blurry-eyed kids who look like they just rolled out of a fraternity kegger). Often seen uploading (typing) their thoughts into laptops, Blackberries or Palm Pilots.

Hot rod journalists: the folks wearing pants the print journos donated to Goodwill and a grease-stained hot rod parts or event t-shirt (even when it's 10 degrees outside). Some will be wearing a Boyd-style Hawaiian shirt and/or Baskerville/Freiburger flip-flops.

Successful freelance journalists: See hot Rod journalists.

Unsuccessful freelance journalists: Dressed like they're going on a job interview.

TV journalists: Fresh-faced kids in suits or dresses who know absolutely nothing about anything and who smile constantly. (Tip: they're usually followed by a couple of old hippies that look like print journalists lugging video equipment and fuzzy boom mics).

Note: Nuclear-hot, intellectually vacuous young women who are not followed by camera and sound techs or who are wearing something that's too low-cut or sparkly for TV are spokes-models and not TV Journalists. Watch for various hot rod journos, Jalopniks, politicians and PR reps to be hitting on them . . . .

Network TV journalists: Attractive, familiar-appearing older people in expensive suits or dresses who know absolutely nothing about anything and who smile constantly (except when they're in "expose' mode"). (Tip: they're usually followed by a phalanx of older hippies that look like print journalists lugging uber-expensive video equipment and fuzzy boom mics, as well as a young, obnoxious producer or two.).

Politicians: Folks that look like: (a) TV journalists who are long past their prime (and who still know nothing), (b) the "missing link" in an Armani suit, or (c) the runt of the litter. Always have their hands out for handshakes and campaign cash. Usually travel with an entourage of near-college-aged kids who look like they're young politicians-in-training or just stepped out of an Abercrombie and Fitch photo shoot.

Corporate marketing/PR reps: folks who look like Golf and/or tennis pros (or car salespeople) wearing polo/golf shirts emblazoned with their employer's logo.

Senior OEM Executives: Folks who dress like network TV journalists but are too homely and/or old for the tube. Entourage looks more like a politician's but may be sprinkled with polo/golf shirters and steroid-enhanced security guards.

Junior OEM Executives: Dressed like either corporate marketing/PR types or like they're going on a job interview.

Car Dealers Men: Older marketing/PR types accompanied by a someone who looks like an aging spokesmodel/TV Journalist; Women: Aging accountants (often portly) or "cougars" accompanied by someone who looks like one of those Abercrombie models.

BTW, I've always thought a great idea for a TV show would be to put car haters and other clueless "appliance motorists" into various improbable gearhead situations: e.g. "San Fran Nan" on the Hot Rod Power Tour. . .. Ralph Nader in a Corvair at Bonneville or the Silver State Classic . . . Harry Reid in a drag car (he'd need a Hans Device to keep from breaking his pencil-geek neck at launch) . . . Al Gore at the Woodward Dream Cruise or the Street Rod Nationals . . . "Cash for Clunkers" queen Rep. Betty Sutton at Billetproof or Hershey or the H.A.M.B. Drags . . . .

Dude, that was funny as hell.

            Although you didn't classify "Semi-sucessful freelancer/hot rod blogger" ;)

Um, Dude . . . I found out several jobs ago that it's usually not a good idea to lampoon "the boss." ;)

              Besides, you'll be easy to spot because you'll be covered in "Bangshift.com" swag . . . .

BTW, is there a "Bangshift" flip-flop yet?

Hopefully, Ford will hide the 2011 Mustang from Pelosi, or distract her with the 2011 Focus.

Please, Ford, put an EcoBoost motor in that thing... ;D

I will say, Speedzzter, that Ford is indeed listening to the faction that wants what Europe is getting, and they have nowhere to go but up with the Fiesta and Focus 3.0. Life is good for Blue Oval partisans, eh? ;D
