Re: NASCAR Tracks Reduce Seating Capacity Due to Falling Ticket Sales

MAYBE try lowering the ticket prices///
    the seats are already there..
    cost nothing extra..
and you'd make more on the people being there

That makes too much sense Mark.

Widen the existing seats to accommodate the wide existing seats of many Nascar fans....

Re: NASCAR Tracks Reduce Seating Capacity Due to Falling Ticket Sales

So how did that meeting go?
"Well boys, we're not filling every seat at the races. Anyone have any ideas to put an ass in every seat?"

"Well sir, we've talked it over and have a couple ideas. The first is that we could lower ticket prices by about $10 each and make it so a family of 4 can come to the races without taking out a second mortgage on their home. This is the least expensive option for us, as it would require no changes to the facilities or the operations. Also, it'd bump revenue back up for our parking fees because more people would be coming to the races that otherwise might stay home, and it should have a positive effect on our concessions and merchandise sales."

"I dunno.... what else you got?"

"Well, we could actually limit the number of people who come by closing off or maybe even removing large sections of the grandstands. Of course, we'll have to pay crews to remove the seats, and we'll need to pay to have the seats hauled off, or pay to store them somewhere. This will also have a negative affect on the parking, concessions and merchandise revenue streams."

"Okay, I like it, but is there something we can do to recoup some of that money in the short run, and capitalize on it in the long run?"

"Yes sir, there is. Me and the boys were thinking that because there are fewer seats in this scenario, tickets will be harder to get so we can charge a premium for them... we're thinking 10-15 percent more per ticket, and we'll bump the parking permits up by $5 a car."

          "Excellent!"

"That's not all sir! We also came up with an idea to make the seats a little more comfortable for some of our fans by taking out the existing seating, and replacing it with brand new seats that are 4-inches wider. We can market these wider, more comfortable seats, and charge a bit more for them as well. We figure we should be able to recoup the costs of the seats, removing and disposing the existing ones within two races. Of course, we'll have to charge more, but we don't think that will be a problem--people will pay for comfort."

          "Fantastic..."

"Funny you should say "fantastic" sir, because that leads me to our next idea. We can put a multi-million dollar fan-plex in some of the premier facilities. The fact is, not everyone is a NASCAR fan--some of them come to the races just to be with the family, but they really don't care about our cars or the race. If they don't have something there to interest them, they won't buy a ticket to attend the race with their friends or family. With a huge fan-plex, they'll gladly pay for a full-price ticket to get in the gate, and then we can get them for concessions and merchandise as well."

Now, if they could just figure out a way to take all the racing and brand identity out of the racing, they can completely kill the sport.

You haven't seen parking rate robbery until you visit the Rose Bowl in your RV, bus, or limo. This year it was $280 for a bus, $250 for a RV, and $200 for a limo.

Re: NASCAR Tracks Reduce Seating Capacity Due to Falling Ticket Sales

The gas station on the corner by Fenway gets 90-100 bucks a car for regular season games, which is the highest I have heard for regular season stuff, but during the 2004 and 2007 World Series there were lots getting that money for the home and play off games.

For those of you that have never been to Fenway, the place literally does not have a parking garage. You have to pick one of the privately owned lots, garages, or gas stations and pay about 50 skins minimum (and we're talking for like a tuesday night game against the Royals or something), or you take the miserable T, or you get savvy and prowl the streets for a metered spot away from Kenmore square and make the walk to the park. I usually take option three and hunt for a spot on Bay State Rd. The trick to Bay State is to get there kinda early because lots of the buildings on the road are used by Northeastern University and people tend to leave around 5-5:30. That means you can normally avoid even paying for the meter!

I spent 5 years as an operaions manager overseeing about 30 guys that drove trucks in and around metro Boston every day, so I like to use that knowledge to my advantage!

The rose bowl is in a park that is a ravine in the middle of a residential area. Take a look at Google Maps for it. The residential streets are closed to parking on game days; although, some residents sell spaces in their driveway. Not many though. So, unless you like walking 3 to 4 miles to get to your car, you gotta pay up.

The reason the NFL said a big NO to putting a team there. That and no suites.

They are just taking the seats out to use at another new cookie cutter track , that really should bring in more new fans and excite the old ones.......NOT.
