Re: The History of the Detroit Autorama and the Ridler Award

Thanks for the trip down Memory Lane. As a kid I talked my folks into letting me go to a show at the Light Guard Armory. I thought it was "The Autorama" but the light Guard Armory isn't listed as one of the venues so maybe I was a part of a different history.

I worked at the New Baltimore track but didn't realize it was the MHRA facility. By then (1968-1970) it was owned, or at least run by, Gil Kohn of Detroit Dragway fame and was considered secondary to the Dragway. They ran a similar slate of racing but the shows (Nats, Night of Fire, etc.) pretty much went to the Dragway.

Cool bit of history on the Riddler. Folks outside of Detroit thought the award was named for Batman's nemesis.
