Well, Ed Whitacre admitted he didn't know squat about the car biz, and Fritz at least was a car guy.
Maybe his input was needed (but not worth quite that much for a temp job).

"Dial Tone" Ed's $9 million 3-year package works out to about $960/hour for a 60-hour work week. That's incredible money for an on-the-job trainee! But that's slumming for Ol' "Dial Tone." He reportedly snagged an incredible $408,000/week from the telephone company in 2001 ($21 million/year).
