Re: NASCAR to Tear Down Lowest Finishing Non-Wrecked Competitors
This addresses the wrong problem. The real problems are: (1) the "go or go home rule" (GOGH) that locks in the top 35 in points regardless of qualifying speed; (2) single car qualifying instead of qualifying races or "knock out" qualifying; (3) the ridiculous cost escalation caused by allowing non-stock parts.
It would seem that if NASCAR sidelines the "start and park" bunch, qualifying will have even less drama and eventually some races might not start with full fields (depending upon how many GOGHers are deterred from attempting to qualify).
The Scene's story was also poor reporting because it did not explain why an inspection would trigger $30,000.00 in "rebuild" costs. Does NASCAR destroy the engine and car in "inspection?" If it's mostly labor cost, it would take 150 hours at $200.00 per hour to run up a $30,000.00 "rebuild" bill.
