Re: Ford Outsells GM in February, Sales Numbers Continue to Climb
They are doing even better in Canada ... when our Ford rep. was around this week, he mentioned that the sales here were up 51% vs. last year. They have some good product now and more coming, hopefully they can keep things going.
cheers

Re: Ford Outsells GM in February, Sales Numbers Continue to Climb
Likely a bigger factor than GM's purported lack of inventory is Toyota pulling most of its top-sellers off the market for over a quarter of February.
Toyota is about to start a huge price/warranty war to regain market share. Thus, I expect both GM and Ford suffer a little while 'Yoda will rebound some. Fuel prices are starting to inch back up. The uncertainty over the Greek financial crisis and continued U.S. unemployment also casts a pawl over long-term economic prospects.
But Ford is becoming better situated to compete on the product side. The brilliant Fiesta, the incredible 6.7 "Scorpion" PSD, and the power-to-weight class-leading 2011 Mustang will all have a positive impact on sales in 2010. Sales for the award-winning Fusion continue to climb. Halo vehicles like the SVT Raptor and the Shelby GT500 continue to exceed expectations. More EcoBoost engines are almost here.
GM will likely lose some additional sales in the wind-down of non-core brands. The recent GM recall will also not help sales in the short term. GM also still suffers somewhat from the "Government Motors" perception.
On the other hand, GM's Cadillac line-up is one of the best in the industry. GM's niche cars (Camaro, Corvette) remain steady sellers. GM's light truck sales are acceptable, notwithstanding styling apparently from the Ray Charles School of Design. GM is having much more than its fair share of success in motorsports (important if "Win on Sunday, sell on Monday" still means anything). And don't discount GM's institutional pride as a motivator.
So I suspect that the February 2010 victory for Ford may be fleeting.

Re: Ford Outsells GM in February, Sales Numbers Continue to Climb
and if fords to top new engines have teething issues in the mustang and truck..
but like the road and trace awards.. the ford new models will not always be new, and as long as g.m.s new models or new designs of currant nameplates..are not half @$$ed.. they'll be back on top..
if nothing else, this help luts get his rear drive v8 g8 a new look, as it only add to sales as a chevy caprice or..
well, it be the top model.. a bel air..
any g.m. orange bleeding car guy will say (not in public) that toyota taking the top stot, and ford coming close, is the best thing to happen to g.m.
as it gets the, "we don't have to, we're #1" to, we have no choice but to..

Things that have been good for GM:
Losing top sales spot to Toyota
Watching their market share erode from 60% of the US market to roughly 20%
Closing several of their brands
Shutting down a large number of their dealers
Shuttering US plants and moving work overseas or south of the border
....yep, those guys have Ford a Yota right where they want them.
BrianThat which you manifest is before you.

Automotive News and Reuters are reporting that Lutz is gone effective 1 May 10. With "Maximum Bob" apparently really going away, "Dial Tone" Ed Whitacre is going to need all of the help he can get.
