Re: Event Gallery: Spring Carlisle 2010

Hey, Joe, thanks for the pics! That '62 Ford Ranch Wagon is my absolute fave car in the group; LOVE the lines and wish I had the $ (unless he was asking too much...). Swap out the doors for a pair of 2-door sedan doors, slant the 'B' pillars to match the rear side window angle, swap on a set of 16" artillery wheels - a bit wider in the rear, 'natch - with black wall tires with a decent sidewall height and you got yourself one sweet ride! OK, I need oxygen, I'm gettin' faint...

OOOPS! That '62 is really a '60 - but you already knew that! (obviously, I've forgotten; old-timers strikes again!)

I believe it is/was some type of drop-tank from a WW II-era fighter plane. Notice the fins on the rear; possibly to aid in flight back to terra-firma or aid in greater destruction when jettisoned over potential targets. The fins may have helped it to maintain a nose-down attitude to allow it to have greater destructive force when reaching the ground/structure/?.

My father was in WW II and brought home a very small projectile (1-1/2"- 2", max.) that looked for all the world like a bomb: slender, tear-drop shaped body w/fins, though the nose had a much more pronounced point. Dad said it wasn't a bomb; it was molded from solid steel. He said it was designed to be dropped from a bomber by the thousands over populated areas. Think about that for a moment. Most bombers flew at around 10,000 - 20,000 ft. From that height, something such as this would have gone straight through a human body on contact. He said that they were told that it had the capability of penetrating an engine block! War is hell.
