Those old jalopies weren't made from recycled beer cans. Their top sides could take quite a bit of force before collapsing. The 40 Fords in that video have a lot of iron between the fully framed windows. Even the door windows have a bunch of metal in the window frames.

I'm surprised they left that car on the side of the track(exiting turn) stay there..
and the roof issue...
must remember.. those cars didn't weigh in at much...
