    Well, Im no metalurgist but the way the rod is cracked top to bottom. It looks like there may have been a flaw or a fissure in the metal from the beginning forging process. The top of the rod & piston are broken off due to getting caught in the rotating carnage.

      That's actually fairly typical of a billet rod -- they aren't near as strong as a forged piece . . .

        I wonder how they thought billet aluminum was going to do good.
        I still check a billet aluminum oil filter can.. @ just 85psi.

        even forged can fail. the right definition of "forged" must be had.

        maybe they can try some oak tree or mahogany. :

          Maybe it's just the angle of the photo

          Thats about the higest quality rod for that application that you can get.
