Actaully saw the HUG's first pass EVER! Took place in the Hurst Performance Research parking lot in May 1965. Though Bob helped build the original, it's first driver was "Wild Bill" Shrewsberry. Bill came up from Ohio to "test fit" the car. Started the engine (no exhaust system) - and rolled it out into the HPR parking lot. Next door was Madison Heights High School. Bill saw the kids looking at him and popped the car's first-ever wheelie. The high school EMPTIED!!<grin>

I really enjoyed that video. Always loved the wheelie cars...kinda silly, but it was something that said "Let's make up something fun!".

My drag racing guilty pleasures are wheelstanders. I freaking love the things.

Back in the 60s several tracks had "Wheelstander Nationals" where tons of them would show up and duel it out.

Like Loren said, they are F-U-N!
