Re: Dummy Video: A Dirt Path Is Not a Drag Strip

It's amazing how few people understand why a drag strip is pool table smooth and with excellent traction...you can put all kinds of power down on the street but who knows when you'll lose traction when you hit dirt, oil, roadkill etc. Dirt roads are ten times worse: rally and autocross drivers get this but are driving vehicles designed for those conditions.

It also amazing how few people understand basic physics - guess they've been seduced by all those 'horsepower' new car ads on telly with vehicles drifting across deserts etc....

For your information, there were a number of all dirt dragstrips in the South - many with NHRA sanctioning.

I believe it.. and they raced flat ovals spewing stuff everywhere for a long time too. heavier v8 cars.

the vid here sounded as four cylinders... one looking like the bill caswell rally special.. without the welding.
dirt seems more fun, they get to let the little engine spin tires with little power.

Those "dirt" tracks were made of clay and were actual "tracks" not paths behind a garage.

            Here's a "furrin'" dirt strip
