Damn...that looks like alot of fun.
I keep trying to talk the buddy into modifying his car for a bigger engine and better clutch, but oh, hell no, that requires too much hackery. :-\

Thanks to everyone at Bangshift for sharing vintage karting with a broader audience. Unfortunately, vintage karting doesn't get a lot of exposure beyond the 300 or so folks around the country that periodically get together and have a boat load of fun with these old racing karts. If anyone is interested, there are vintage kart meets all around the country. For more information you check these sites:

You've got to remember that the first generation of karts were built by guys like Art Ingles (Kurtis Kraft), Jim Rathman (mulitple Indy winner), George Salih and Duffy Livingston who were designing sprint and indy cars of the time. Karts don't have any form of suspension so the the chassis has to flex...If it doesn't, it tends to understeer like a snow plow.
The McCulloch kart was notorious offender for under steer, but was designed to withstand the rigors of the 100 mile street race in the streets of Tecate, Mexico.

Thanks Flandoman, I just watched the interview with Micky Rupp, talking about that subject on www.vintagepowersport.com.
He was talking about chassis flex, and cracking, and then his progression to racing at Indy. Ill have to forward the link to Brian, since the name Rupp is one any Bang-Shifter should know!
