Air museums are the best.......looks like this one
is no exception.
Old planes are very cool and the history
is even better.
If you're ever out around Tuscon...the Pima Museum is
worth the stop also.Thom

Re: Huge Gallery: A Tour of the New England Air Museum
Great meeting you there Brian, thanks for the heads up! Sorry we didn't get to spend more time with you guys, but your kids were done and mine just got let out of the car after 2 hours and were off and running. Thanks for all the pictures, my wife was out of town with the good camera. I did get some good cockpit shots.

Pete, same here! It was great to meet you and the girls. Sorry the boys were like herding cats.
We'll have a more controlled environment at the car shows this spring/summer!
Glad you got down there. I think it was worth the trip. All those planes and freaky engines were great!

Re: Huge Gallery: A Tour of the New England Air Museum
I grew up on air bases and nearly all of them have museums. I never get tired of them. Thanks for the tour.
Those Gee Bee racers amaze me. Fat fuselages, short stubby wings, near nothing rudder, and that monster Pratt & Whitney radial up front. It doesn't appear it could get off the ground. They were really scary to fly too.BS'er formally known as Rebeldryver

Re: Huge Gallery: A Tour of the New England Air Museum
The red and white plane has awesome history. I spoke to the daughter of the guy that built it (she was up there in years too). Jimmy Dolittle (yes, the same guy that raided Tokyo) flew that plane to a record speed of 256mph back in the day. It won some air races too.
I looks like a cartoon!!! I thought it was a real hot roddy looking piece.

Re: Huge Gallery: A Tour of the New England Air Museum
The actual Gee Bee R1 that Doolittle flew was crashed three different times. The last, totalled it. This one at the museum is a reproduction of how it was built when Doolittle flew it.
Here is a video of one in flight.
