Aero covers that turned with the front wheels were banned before aero bodied cars were common. I believe Ivo may have been the last to run them leading to a crash that help make the rule. Rutter effect :o

The first sidewinder I remember was Creighton Hunter's.....
Most early front motored diggers were shorties.....
Someone had a rule that the wheelbase should equal the diameter of the slick... which was about 90 inches.
I wouldn't call cutting back on nitro an innovation - that's just a rule change.

That was Scotty Fenn's theory which was seemingly pulled from thin air.

In the late 80's Reher & Morrison built some twin plug big block heads for a dual ignition system they were working on. NHRA heard about it and said no way boys.

Another pro stock deal that went the way of the doo doo bird was the slide valve throttle injection done by Air Flow Research that was shown at one of the first SEMA shows in the early 70's. They raised the intake port through about 1/3 of the standard rocker cover for a straight shot at the valve. DOA by the powers that were.....

How about the banning of screw blowers in the nitro classes. I'm pretty sure they've also banned turbos in the nitro classes now too.

Lets not forget Dave Benjamins three valve heads for nitro motors.

              How about turbochaged Pro Stockers?

Or Turbos in ANY NHRA classes?

AA Dale tried 4(!) Fuel Pumps and 3 mags, both prompted quick rule changes.

I don't know if the little airplane wheels where a fail but they went away after Darrell Gwenns crash.

TURBOS ARE WELCOME IN PRO MOD AND COMP ELIMINATOR AND OF COURSE THE SUPER CLASSES

Buddy Ingersoll got ripped by the rule-change on turbos.

A tiny lil' V-6 made the "Big Boys" cry!! ;)

And how many races did Bob Glidden win?

Okay, what about lockup torque converters. Sounded like another gear with a powerglide.
