Re: The Top 11 Greatest Automotive Sauces

I've still got a bucket of that Chem-Dip carb cleaner. Make sure not to loose the plastic locking ring that keeps the lid from exploding off when it really gets going inside the can! Another awesome product is GM Heat Valve Lubricant, AKA Rust Penetrant and Inhibitor.

Another great one is Lucas power steering stop leak, but power steering like power brakes is over rated.

Ford Friction Modifier, part number XL-3. Works great for weak posi units and slipping transmissions. Stinks like holy hell too, which is a tell-tale sign it's gonna work.

Any real (read: non-California) brake parts cleaner, because anything that turns oil into water you can clean up with a paper towel instantly kicks some ass
Agreed. I buy that stuff by the case. Multi-purpose product for sure.

As a side note, carb cleaner doubles as a great "airborne" wasp/bee/hornet killer. Knocks the little bugger out of the sky instantly.

Chem dip. I love and hate that crap. It works fantastic for melting gunk from any carb that was buried in a backyard garden for decades. And, yes it smells. You can find in it at the parts store just by sniffing the air. Just wait until you open the can, one good whiff will melt that shrubbery growing in your nose while the tiniest drop on the skin will make you smell like a paper mill for the next decade. It's the best thing on earth for keeping away all those ladies who want your bod.

I suppose all this junk hanging over my belt is Chem-Dip then.

I used to have a big 15 gallon can of that chem-dip in my dad's back yard. It eventually sprang a leak/seapage and I had to call a chemical guy to haul it away. Twenty years later I still think I catch a whiff of it in the basement from time to time when I visit.....

Gads I hope the EPA ain't reading this :o

PB Blaster is awesome! I don't know what I did before that stuff came along! It's stout! On a side note,I let a can of PB fall of a shelf and hit the lid of my open toolbox. The can busted open and sprayed PB all over the hood of my Formula!!! Thank God I wax the hell out of my car! I wiped like crazy and thankfully it didn't kill the paint. I just about crapped though.

The Chem-Dip is great stuff too,but it do stink. The worst is used Eaton Supercharger fluid. It makes used GM posi fluid smell like a lilac bouquet!

I have 2 gallon cans of Chem-Dip, one dirty one for the initial bath and a second relatively clean one for the final!

Don't forget Marvel Mystery Oil. When I was a Corvair fanatic in the 60's that stuff would unstick a lifter in seconds!

I don't even need to use the PB Blaster, I just want it on the shelf. the can cracks mu up. So much to read.

Don't know if this qualifies as 'sauce' but Simple Green cleaner. It's one of the few car-related things I buy that the wife agrees is really kind of useful around the house.

Yep, Simple Green is a nice engine/chassis degreaser that doesn't smell horrid for months and it's actually environmentally friendly.

                            what about nitro?
i've heard it called the worlds best solvent. it has the ability to desolve bank accounts, marriages, aluminum, relationships, time, and morale in mere seconds.
