ummmmmmmm - they are going bankrupt.........might be best if they concentrate on mass market products instead of playtoys for a while.
I know that's contrary to how all of our brains work, but it's the reality of the situation.Comment

Call it sour grapes but I never did see this as a smart thing. If GM was going to sell car/trucks they should be Chevys and they definitely should be ElcaminosComment

Not overly troubled by this. Although I was intrigued and will still have a look at it if GM does go ahead with it, I'm still having some difficulty with a Pontiac 'El Camino.'Michael from Hampton RoadsComment

It can't be that GM hasn't started building them yet. These Utes are real and can be brought at your local GM dealer (Holden) here in Australia. ;)
My guess there must be about 10,000 of that body on the roads here although not all optioned to that level as they are available here with a V6 on the lower models.
They are made in the Elizabeth Holden plant in South Australia. They can be made LHD as easy as RHD.
I think the problem GM sees happening is that they wont sell the volume over there to make it worth their while. :'(Tim

Between this and the Camaro; they are waffling on cars that have been the most exciting cars to the public in years. Really stupid. You stop building the cars that cause yawns at the shows and build the cars that people are clamoring for.BS'er formally known as Rebeldryver

) and the G8 sedan/VE Commodore are the perfect cars right now. All they have to do is import them and sell them. All the production line set up and R&D has already been done. They don't even need to build the cars. and they're rear drives. :D
The new VE/Zeta platform was designed around complying with US standards. No need to make over 400 modifications like we had to with the Monaro/GTO. They're nuts if they back out if this deal.Comment

At this point I think that GM could srew up a wet dream in a whore house with an armored car full of cash and they are proving that of late.Hauling ass & sucking gas are the best uses for a truck.Comment

. I distinctly remember, being in Kuwait, seeing all the Chevy Lumina SS's and Caprice's around and everyone's jaw drop..."Why the F&@k can't we buy this in the States?!"
..easy...Australia kept the good shit. :DEditor-at-Large at...well, here, of course!

Re: Snatching Defeat From the Jaws of Victory: The G8 Sport Truck May Be Killed
I'm not sure the G8 ST would be a big seller here, even if they called it a Chevy El Camino. I think consumers would look at it as having all the downsides of a regular-cab truck but without the towing capability. It's a novelty. Not as expensive or worthless as the SSR, but a novelty nonetheless.Comment

Re: Snatching Defeat From the Jaws of Victory: The G8 Sport Truck May Be Killed
I think the utes are very popular here because they aren't as bulky as pick-ups and don't handle like them either. They perform and handle like a car because they still are one. Look a heap better too I reckon. Most people don't need to haul a ton of stuff everyday.Originally posted by FreiburgerI'm not sure the G8 ST would be a big seller here, even if they called it a Chevy El Camino. Re: Snatching Defeat From the Jaws of Victory: The G8 Sport Truck May Be Killed
Read some supposed industry 'insider' articles speculating on GM's most likely actions in coming months. They are virtually unanimous that the G8 Sport Truck WILL arrive on N American shores -- for all the reasons Blackout Steve articulates above. The ones with the small motors will apparently get the big sales push.Originally posted by BlackoutSteveFrom GM USA's point of view, this ute (Its not a truck! >
