Re: A Sad Public Announcement: Fire is Not Good

Small consolation, but at least the rare one of the bunch, the Dodge, looks savable. There's even some wood still left on the top, and all the wheels still look right. Heck, even the one in the rear is still holding air.

Given the skills of todays good shops - the Buick and Dodge look saveable... too bad about the Mustang - I can't imagine it's worth saving; but who knows - the vin plate and numbers will probably drive again
Doing it all wrong since 1966

What a shame. Is there something we Junkyarders can do to at least help Roy feel better? Cards, letters, etc? Saying OMG is understandable, but something tangible might help more. As an old fart myself (but nowhere near THAT old) I know how disheartening setbacks can be, and I've had nowhere near this magnitude of setback.

The Dodge does look fixable - not sure about the Buick. IMHO, 'Stang is likely a goner.

"Setback" hardly describes what happened for a man of 89.

                Not well by all accounts.

                It's very sad.

I can tell you from personal experience that you never recover. My wife and I had a total loss fire in '98 and it is life changing. It's bad enough to lose all your belongings, but then the insurance company gets involved and that's worse than the fire itself.

According to firehouse.com, the cars were in movies:

"They were in the move 'The Great Gatsby,' 'Witches of Eastwick,' 'Brinks Robbery,' and it was his hobby. He worked on antique cars all the years after he retired," said Bean's son, Ray Bean Jr.

That's what everyone locally has told me as well.
