      well, I make my living selling the "bling" . I dont think the big diameters are going to go away, there are lots, and I mean LOTS of oe vehicles that you simply cant put small wheels on. 05 and later Ford super duty, most are 18"...because that is what fits over the calipers. Dodge trucks, starting in 2002, nothing smaller than 17" will clear the calipers. all you dodge srt-8 fans, very few aftermarket 20" wheels fit over those big Brembo calipers, gotta do 22"s...

      DF's very own Muscle Truck has 17"s!! and good luck finding 14" tires any more....

        Not at all, if you notice all 3 of your examples are for function reasons, and 2 out of 3 are trucks. Its when you're running your '87 Accord with 22's with the 6" drums showing in the back that looks ridiculous (although I'm not positive 22's would fit in the fender). Also, I'm sure those trucks have more than 1"-2" sidewalls.

        Personally, I think that old rods look cool with a varying size in wheels, depending on the size of the car. Camaro/Mustang/Challenger I think 16 may be pushing it, but a 66 Continental will swallow up 18"-20" without you even noticing.

            There was still plenty of "bling" at SEMA 2008, but I did see a lot of cars that were "understated" in all ways, including the wheels. And they were getting the looks. I saved my old 14" ET slots with good reason - fashion is such a fickle mistress. 14 x 9 slots on the back of an Econoline - now thats class. :D

              If you read the full SEMA article it states that the bulk of wheel sales will be 17s to 20s due to new-car fitments. The point is that designs will be simpler.

                The stuff that cracks me up, were the tiny(13") wheels on the FWD caes,
                that stick a foot out of the wheelwells.

                You could almost watch the wheel bearings, and ball joints wear out, going down the road.
                Ugly and stupid.

                  Not a big fan of the giant wheels on older cars, although they do seem to suit the styling on many newer vehicles.

                    Eventually that faded away as widespread as it was. Hopefully the ultra-large wheel trend will go away eventually also.

                    I have 275/40/17 tires and Coy's C5 wheels on my C10. I was worried about having the "rubber band" look,but it's not bad at all. I personally wouldn't go over 17 or 18 inches though. My Dad's '07 Silverado came from the factory on 17 inch wheels also.

                      I hope this means 14's will come back so the price of the tires comes back down. I like my stock wheels on the Elco.
                      Hauling ass & sucking gas are the best uses for a truck.

                        I was commenting on the diameter alone. I have no, absolutely, no Opinion of what style wheels a person puts on the ride of their choice. Escalades and super duty's also have 22" options stock.

                        myself personally,
                        17" white ROH wheels on the Kia in the summer, 15" with snows winter
                        15" centerlines on the Camaro
                        15" Brand-X wheels on the Suburban

                        I do agree with the article, that the crosslace/mesh design has been making a come back for more than a year now, and you just cant beat a clean 5 spoke, no matter if it is 14" civic wheels, or 24" wheels on a Challenger(sold a set of those this month). just my opinion, which most of you will agree, is probably wrong.
