Re: Freiburger's Pic of the Week: The Biz
I'm sure that my list of "ones that got away" is a very small fraction of yours, but I think about them often. With fondness, mind you, not regret.
Well, that all original '68 SS396 4-speed might have a few regrets attached.

Re: Freiburger's Pic of the Week: The Biz
Ahhhh, the Biz - I don't know how I ended up with it. Caught DF at a weak moment I guess. The car hadn't been driven in over a year when I picked it up. We put a battery in it, fired it up and I headed back to El Paso. A smooth drive other than overheating in Blythe...which was exactly the same spot I overheated two years later in another light blue sedan that came from DF. Another story... The Spintech muffler is gone, but the flamethrower is still in place (with the help of an MSD constant fire module).
I cleaned off the rust and my wife and I drove the car to the Lonestar Roundup in Austin (about 7 hours) for our honeymoon. Got pulled over a few hours east of El Paso and the cop was surprised to learn we were driving to a car show. After the show on Saturday, a lound thumping came out from the drivetrain and we discovered the center-bearing on the driveshaft let go. Fortunately, we limped into the hotel parking lot, I got a ride to a parts shop and they actually had one. The ride home took a little longer, and a lot more quarts of oil. Like 10 or 12. Added four at one point, but we made it.
Next year, we towed the Biz back to Austin, largely because we had our 3-month old in tow. That's him in the trunk digging the scene.
I was able to score a 261 inline-6 that someday may make it's way in. Last time I cruised it, there were no brakes at all. Need some time to get in there and get it road ready again. It's a great cruiser...but man, that '65 is soooooooo tempting. Oh yea, send that steering wheel over too!

Re: Freiburger's Pic of the Week: The Biz
I feel your pain, David. I got rid of my '62 Biscayne to buy my wife's wedding ring. It had a cracked 235 in it that would drink about a gallon of water between Bakersfield and Famoso raceway, but just kept running. I developed a love for the six and the 3 on the tree. The only six cylinder I have ever owned.
Bakersfield, CA.

I'm claiming eminent domain, or something like that.
Such deal must ease the misgivings of unloading your old junk, like what, it's still gonna come back and visit for Thanksgiving or something? I've done it....
