Re: Vintage Race Car of the Week: Smokey's Pod Car

    Pure greatness ;D

The "pod" arrangment gives off a sidecar vibe. To me, that car is saying "I'm going where I want to and you're just coming along for the ride." Truly a wild piece of machinery but definitely proved that it was indeed a viable competitor.

    Really good stuff Brian ;)

Interesting stuff. It is a bit ironic that the sanctioning body/racetrack that outlawed it is showing it.... wonder if that them unconsciously admitting they were wrong?

It's an interesting idea of where to put the weight of the car. With the driver's weight hanging off the left side of the car; it would keep those inside tires planted in the corners. Nascar does something similiar with lead weights on the left frame rail.

That guy was awesome. Every time I go to a vintage event where Vic brings Smokey's Camaro I am always just staring at it, the looking at a normal one, then looking back...

But that thing, I dunno how anyone had the attachments to get in that. good lord. much more man than I.

Shots....my sentiments exactly. Bobby Johns must have had 'em the size of church bells to look at that car and say, "OK, where do I sign up?"
