Re: Barnstormin': A Day With the Vermont Junkyard Guy
I'll say it again-- I will never allow a thing to own me. I will own things, but I will never allow them to control me.
I want that place. ;D Purely for profit motives, though. The official Bangshift garage door guru. Just about anything can be built using garage door parts, trust me.

Gearheads shouldnt own that place. The parts will control you after a while."Cant sell this intake, cause i should use it on the 427 i have there, and that 71 mercury spoiler can be a great road racer some day".....
And then we would be like the owners of the cars in "Cars in Barns".
Greed or profit.Its the same.
What i would like to do,is to buy the place, and give the parts away ;D.

Dagenesta, that is what we as humans have to be careful of. If not careful, these cars, homes, other obsessions can own us. That is something I used to struggle with and I only had one car. It's alot more enjoyable when you have the ability to walk away from possessions at any given time. Makes life easier.Bakersfield, CA.

Re: Barnstormin': A Day With the Vermont Junkyard Guy
I definitely hear what you guys are saying (and not saying ;)) but I will say this, Bruce is not a man who is boastful about this stuff. I'm not a doctor or a scientist of any kind, but I think that while drugs are the most public thing that people get "hooked" on and do in a compulsory fashion, they certainly aren't the only thing.
Even DF who is like a velcro magnet for beater cars, I don't think anyway, would ever amass this level of "stuff".
Repeatedly throughout the visit Bruce would say, "I have no idea how one person acquires all this stuff."

OCD, dude....OCD.
I like cars and all, but I'd crush every last bit before I'd allow one to come between me and my wife&children.
Having said that, I'd let Stevie Wonder tee-off on my noggin at the driving range for the chance to cart some free/reduced-price goodies out of that place.

It's a stock eliminator racer's heaven. He has 700 sets of cylinder heads in his basement...no shit.
16 or so 409's there.

Brian you are right that story is really a sad and sobering one. I would like to walk through the yard, take a few "creative" pictures, but from a personal perspective I understand your feelings about this story. Thanks for what you have written here.
