The auto makers want the working mans tax dollars to bail them out, but still want to charge you $50,000.00 for a new pick up truck?! Whats wrong with this picture? I know this is how companies make there money but hasn't the light bulb turned on yet? People are starting to get a little smarter with what little money they do have. This is only my opinion.

2) Neither company had enough employees to virtually devastate the entire nation if they all became unemployed.
3) They both sold assets to other companies
I agree, especially with 1.
I had two Great Uncles that worked in the Studebaker factory in South Bend. I remember them working in grocery stores well into thier 70's because their retirements went away.
I worked for a company that went bankrupt a few years ago (it was an ESOP) the president and CFO did basically the same thing as the ENRON execs., but because it was a much smaller loss that affected fewer people (and it wasn't a publicly traded stock) the Federal Government ignored it. They lied about profits and borrowed money to pay themselves 100,000+ bonuses. There are people that were within a year or two of retiring who have told me that they'll never be able to afford to retire now. And the two execs. that stole all of that money and ruined the company got away with it.
Re: Chrysler Thanks America...And Gets Roasted For It
yikes, someone brought up Enron...
I had a good friend I worked with, who quit our company and went to work for - you guessed it - Enron. He went there about 4 months before it folded up. He told me how he put about $400,000 of his 401K monies into the Enron 401K plan. Then suddenly, there was a 3 month period where their internal web site to monitor and change your 401K investments, was "offline" - employees were complaining, etc. Next thing he knows, he's stuck in Texas $400,000 poorer. He believes they were hiring executives with big 401s to transfer in, *just* to pad the accounts of the guys milking the rest of the employees. He'll never fully recover from it.
