I owe my entire career to Vince Piggins. I was a high school screw up academically and a budding car guy. I used to follow Vince in Hot Rod magazine. I wrote Vince a letter in 1975 and told him that I wanted to move to Warren, MI and work for him. As busy as he was, he wrote back and encouraged me to get a degree in Mechanical Engineering. It sounded so cool. I didn't know you could get degrees like that in college! I had to start at sub ground zero by taking non credit courses at a local junior college. It took almost seven years and I found a lot of mentors along the way, but I finally graduated in 1981 from Georgia Tech. Prior to Vince's encouragement, my career goal was to eventually manage the machine shop I was working in. Vince is one of the good guys. He could have easily blown my letter off, but he didn't. A few minutes of his time made a huge difference in my life.
